Engineering Manager: Oversees the activities of other
engineers in the development of new product designs. Review proposals and
feasibility of creating specific products. Hire, train, and supervise
employees. Are responsible for the outcome of the work.
The activities of an engineering manager include
articulating design development and production activities with top management
and marketing personnel. They interview, hire, and evaluate design engineers.
Need to have at least a bachelor’s degree and at least a
minimum of three to five years of work experience in engineering.
Helpful high school courses include Calculus, Chemistry,
Physics, Statistics and Probability, and Trigonometry/Advanced Algebra. These
courses meet college entrance requirements.

Marketing Managers (sales supervisor): Create plans
to market products and services as attractive to consumers. Goal is to lean
what kinds of products certain people are most likely to buy and then develop
products that can meet their needs.
The activities include working with advertising teams,
researchers, and designers to create products and plan advertising strategies
that will entice people to purchase their products. Suggest for companies to no
longer make products when no one is buying them. Compare their products to
similar ones and decide how to make theirs superior. Also work with public
relations, sales, and advertising departments to make sure that the product has
a good reputation.
Need to have a bachelor’s degree plus several years of work
experience. Most employers like to promote from within their organizations.
Helpful high school courses include Creative Writing,
Psychology, Sociology, and Statistics and Probability. Majors and degrees
include Marketing and Sales.

Aerospace Engineers: Design components for aircraft,
spacecraft, and weapons. Apply aerodynamics to study how objects and surfaces
move through space.
Activities include testing ceramics or metal alloys to
determine strength at high sped. Use CADD (computer-aided-drafting and
design). Build models of aircrafts and
test them in specified conditions.
Need a bachelor’s degree in aerospace, aeronautics, or a
related area of engineering, but many have master’s. Helpful high school
classes include Calculus, Physics, Statistics and Probability, and
Trigonometry/Advanced Algebra.
